“Teh Tarik with the flag” is a symbolic act which says that the Malaysian Flag plays a role representing the Malaysian public gathered together as a nation to celebrate a ‘new dawn’ over a cup of “teh tarik”. A simple act of gesture of a gathering of people, “having a cuppa” united in harmony, steadfast and proud chit chatting together. The “Jalur Gemilang” meaning stripes of glory is composed of a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes bearing a crescent and a 14-point star representing the equal status in the federation of the 13 member states and the federal territories, while the 14 points of the star represent the unity between these entities.
“Teh Tarik with the flag” was featured and curated by Wei-Ling Gallery in association with National Art Gallery and presented by UOB Malaysia. The exhibition featured 14 selected prominent Malaysian artists reflecting their poetics of the Malaysian Flag.
Eleven months after GE-14, Octane pays tribute and remind the citizens of Malaysia that we shall fly our “Jalur Gemilang” with hope for a better future for all Malaysians.
